Diamond is the hardest material in nature. Consequently, it is also the most resistant to abrasion. This unique quality makes diamond, including synthetic diamonds like polycrystalline diamond, ideal for use in cutting tools.
Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is an exceptionally resistant material, in which unsystematically oriented diamond crystals are bonded to a sub-stratum of tungsten carbide. These synthetic diamonds are produced through a high-temperature, high-pressure sintering process in a laboratory, and during this procedure, empty spaces between the PCD grains are filled with a cobalt alloy. And since single diamond grains bond to each other, the outcome is an extremely firm product that keeps its strength and shape.
